In our civic center is a rotunda with 8 built-in display cabinets (each about 8′ X 4′) containing artifacts from the collection of the St. Francis Historical Society. These professionally designed cabinets have themes related to the city’s history: Our Foundation, On the Farm, Town of Lake, St. Francis, Education, Military, and two Business cabinets. Docents will be stationed at these cabinets and will talk about the creation of the displays and the individual historical objects in the displays.
The St. Francis Civic Center was opened in October 2014, replacing the old city hall that was built around 1960. The police station is at the far west end and the fire department on the far east side of the building. In the center of the building is Administration with a rotunda. The historical society has its office and storeroom in the civic center. A donation by a generous donor (former St. Francis business owner) provided the funds for the creation of the 8 historical society display cabinets located in the rotunda that relate to our city’s history.
Come tour the displays and watch demonstrations of woodcarving, cloth weaving, and spinning wheels.
