Have you ever wondered where your recyclables go? The City of Milwaukee’s recycling building houses all of the sorting equipment to unscramble your curbside recyclables. The building and equipment has served as a regional single-stream MRF in partnership with Waukesha County since 2015. The publicly owned facility is privately operated by Republic Services. The facility sorts and processes over 68,000 tons per year from approximately 300,000 households in Southeastern Wisconsin. While the machinery will not be operating, visitors can see the baling equipment and recyclables while learning from Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful about products made from recycled materials and the role recycling plays in our sustainable future. Guided, ticketed tours of the entire facility are also available.
