St. Ann Center’s Bucyrus Campus is a two-story, 80,000-square-foot building in the Lindsay Heights neighborhood, constructed in 2015 to provide child care and adult day services for the frail elderly, adults with disabilities, and seniors with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. Built on vacant land was cleared for a 1960s freewayproject that was abandoned, this Intergenerational Care Center is modeled after St. Ann Center’s originally established south side campus. Designed to let people of all abilities and ages spend their day together joyfully in a beautiful setting, the center provides valuable community-based health and educational services.
On the first floor, child care classrooms on the west wing and the adult day services on the east are connected by a spacious, sunlit indoor park, where adults and children frequently gather for activities and performances. On the second floor, are adjoining medical and dental clinics – the dental clinic specifically designed for persons with cognitive and physical disabilities – as well as a unit for high-functioning adult day program clients.
The second floor also contains the future homes of an overnight respite care unit and a unit for memory care. Respite will include nine individual bedrooms with adjoining bathrooms, a bathing area with accessible tubs, a communal living/dining area, and a kitchen. The memory care unit, the first of its kind on the north side, will care for up to 70 clients daily in multiple rooms for people of different abilities, and include a pacing track with life skills stations.
Outdoors, former brown fields are being cleaned and reshaped for the installation of lighted walking paths, a fruit and nut orchard, play equipment for the children, an accessible playground for adult clients, and a band shell to host music and theater performances for the community. See why St. Ann Center’s new Bucyrus Campus, the winner of a 2016 MANDI Award for Community Advancement, is becoming an integral part of this vibrant neighborhood.
Visitors will view the care wings, tour the medical and specialized dental clinics, and learn about the Center’s features, including their soon-to-open units for overnight respite, Alzheimer’s and dementia care, warm-water therapy pool and more. On a self-guided tour of the building, guests will be welcomed by the African-inspired decor that fills the first floor, enjoy the American South-themed decor on the second floor, and have full access to the the Center’s outdoor facilities.
