Milwaukee County Greenhouses

Take a behind the scenes tour of the newly built County Greenhouses and see first-hand how these state of the art computerized systems manage and monitor the growing of the plant crops for the Conservatory. Energy efficient, grey water reuse, and timed programs all help to produce consistent size and quality of our plant inventories. The new County Greenhouses were constructed 2013-2015 and designed by architects Kubala and Washatko.

Horticulturists will be on hand to answer questions and to talk with visitors about the systems and crop growing that take place in the Greenhouses to support the collections and shows at the Conservatory. and explain this amazing addition to the Mitchell Park Domes. This is the first time the Greenhouses, an amazing addition to the Mitchell Park Domes, have been opened to the public! Food and beverages will also be available for sale on site.

Those visiting the Horticultural Division of the Milwaukee County Greenhouses, managed by the Milwaukee County Parks Department, will have the opportunity to view numerous areas of the 65,000 square ft. building including:

  • 5 growing greenhouses
  • 1 propagation greenhouse
  • head-house
  • horticultural offices
  • flex house
  • laboratory
  • annex for rentals & special event staging
  • facility systems that provide energy efficiency & incorporate industry green practices/standards
