A former turn-of-the-century grocery store, the H.C. Anton Building is constructed of cream city brick and still contains its original tin ceiling. Although much of the character and charm remain, it has been restored and remodeled to presently house Our Daily Salt — a manufacturer of handcrafted housewares.
Our Daily Salt’s beautiful gallery space is filled with work by local artists, including tapestries, art, and handmade furniture, in addition to the owner’s artisan cutting boards, spoons, pepper mills, cork screws and classic tapered rolling pins. The storefront contains both a retail space and glass-encased woodworking shop in the back, where customers can see how handcrafted products are made as various craftspeople work within the space.
Visitors will enjoy a brief tour explaining the history of the building and the business, as well as experience the making of the handcrafted artwork by local Milwaukee artists. Stop in and see why this award winning building redesign was recognized by the Mayor of Milwaukee. With its beautiful, original tin ceilings, exposed cream city brick, and beautiful storefront and workshop, the H.C. Anton Building is a jewel in the crown of Milwaukee.
